The Potter’s Wheel is an ancient craft that fascinates many people, and here at the Pottery Barn, we offer a range of classes and opportunities for everyone from complete beginners to talented potters.

Beginners – Weekday classes

For those new to the art , we offer an introductory session for complete beginners on selected Thursday mornings,10.15 to 1pm. where you will make at least two pots & the  bisque firing is included in the course price.

Cost £30.00 includes tuition, clay & firing of your work (concessions £25.00)

Beginners – Weekend classes

One Saturday or Sunday per month, our introduction to the Potter’s Wheel is suitable for all beginners. You will make at least two pots & have them fired.

Cost £44.50 includes tuition, clay & firing of your work.

Improvers – Weekday & Weekend mornings

For those who have completed at least one beginners class, with us, and feel ready to move on and increase their skills on the wheel. In these ‘improvers’ mornings we cover a different simple project each session including candlesticks, storage jars & lids & bowl making.  Speak to a tutor when booking if there is a particular project you wish to work on.

Cost Weekdays  £30.00 including tuition, clay & firing of your work. (concessions £25.00)  Weekends £44.50.

Improvers – Weekend full day classes

Suitable for those who have done at least one beginners class with us, this full day (10am to 4pm) of pottery allows us to offer projects which require potters to return to partly dry work, for example turning a footrim or adding a handle.

Cost £75.00

On completion of any of the above classes, we will give you a voucher for 10% discount against the cost of your next class.

Semi- Independent & Independent working

If you are ready to work on your own project, but still may need the back up of a tutor from time, then semi-independent sessions will be perfect for you!

Or, for experienced potters, you are welcome ( after an introductory health & safety session) to use one of our wheels for you own projects. 

Cost: (per 2 hour session) £19.50, which includes your first 4 pieces of clay, and firing of your work.  Additional clay charged at £4 per piece.

One to one Tuition

Want a pottery session all to yourself?  We offer one-to one tuition mornings at all levels from complete beginners to experienced potters.  Great for improvers wanting to work on a specific area of their potting!

Cost £60.00 per session ( Weekdays only – 10.15 to 1pm) includes tuition, clay and firing to bisque of your finished work

Or share a session with a friend - our weekday morning class for two persons is suitable for all levels, and great value at £40.00 per person – includes tuition, clay and firing to bisque of your finished work.

How to book

At the time of booking, we will ask you to pay a £10 non-refundable deposit per person, per class.  If you need to cancel your booking at this point, you may use the deposit you have paid against a class on an alternative date.

The balance is payable 2 weeks before the date of your class.  In the event of cancellations less than 2 weeks before the class, we cannot refund any monies paid.

Potter’s Wheel classes are taught in small groups, with a maximum class size of 6 people.  Classes will run with 3 to 6 participants.
