While you are waiting…
Ever wondered how we transform your masterpieces with glaze?
When you leave your items with us, they will have your ticket number on the base, this is how we track them during the next few days and make sure they get into the correct bag ready for you to collect.
Firstly, the painted items need to be dry. In warm weather this can take just an hour or two, during the winter, they need to be left overnight.
Next a thin layer of glaze (silica glass) is applied, to some items by spraying it on, to others by swiftly dipping them into a vat of prepared glaze. The items are then left once more to make sure the glaze is dry and the item correctly covered. When the glaze is dry, we carefully remove glaze from any part of the item which will be in contact with the kiln. On some items this is not possible, and instead of a cleaned base or footrim, you will see three tiny pinpoints on the base, where we have rested the item on props to keep it clear of the kiln shelves.
The items are then loaded into a kiln, making sure they do not touch one another or any part of the kiln. The kiln, once full, is ready to fire. Depending on which kiln we are using and how tightly it is packed, it can be anything up to 2 days before the kiln is cool enough to open and unload. Your items are then checked, the numbers on them matched back up with our copies of your ticket, and they are packed ready for collection.
We hope you are delighted with your unique and now beautifully glazed items. They are now waterproof, food-safe and ready to be used and enjoyed for years to come!
